Learning Objectives

 

 

Do you like drawing and working with color? Are you interested in working with media beyond pencil and pen? If so, painting may be for you!

In the painting classroom you will work with a variety of materials and techniques. You will learn the skills necessary to paint from real life and from photographs. You will learn the importance of color theory and how to mix and blend acryllic and watercolor paints. You will explore a variety of subject matter including still life, portraiture, natural elements, architecture and landscapes.

 

 

 

Discovery Drawing/Painting

COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this semester long course you will explore the fundamentals of drawing and painting including: color theory, color mixing, blending, contour line, perspective, shading, pen techniques, colored pencil and watercolors. You will work with subject matter including portraiture, architecture, animals and nature. You will learn about various artists and their techniques and motivation. You will learn how to look at and talk about your own and others’ artwork.

FEES & SUPPLIES: In addition to the registration fee (for equipment and non-expendable supplies), you are required to purchase a $5 fee card (for the consumable supplies). You will need a folder to keep in the classroom, and must bring a pencil every day. A sketchbook is highly recommended.

CLASSWORK: Most work will be completed during class, but passes are always available. 

DUE DATES: Work may be turned in one week (5 class days) after a due date before any points are taken away. After that week, one point will be taken away every day a project is late.

FIELD TRIPS: In order to attend any field trips, you must have a C or above, and no truancies or referrals.

GRADING: At the end of each project you will fill out a self assessment rubric, which will be turned in with your project. The project is then graded on: the concepts or techniques taught, craftsmanship (neatness), and effort/work ethic. Every day in class you can earn up to 3 points by being on task, putting forth your best effort, using time wisely, and cleaning up after yourself. These points go towards your participation grade.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
            Quiet talking at your table is allowed
            No personal CD/radio/MP3 players
            No food or drink
            No jackets
            Use appropriate language & conversations
            Use supplies properly and responsibly
            Respect others and their work
All artwork must be school appropriate- no symbols, gang signs, copyrighted logos, or drug paraphernalia
